Antique Car Seminar - Hands On
March 11, 2009
In the Evening
Park Slope, Brooklyn
Although located in urban Park Slope, Brooklyn, Leonard Shiller is one of the leading registrants of collectible vehicles in New York State. As president of the Antique Auto Assoc. of Brooklyn, he is often asked to appraise antique cars for insurance purposes where the value exceeds $20,000.
His two garages house 57 old cars and trucks, 6 motorcycles , 5 motor scooters , 5 mopeds , and innumerable bicycles , tricycles , and kids’ scooters. The “ big” garage on Douglass St. is 12,300 sq. ft. and the former oven for the California Pie Company ( closed circa 1968 ). Under this roof you will find cars as varied as a 1929 Durant rumble - seat coupe , 1953 Packard convertible , 1979 Checker ( former NYC ) taxi and trucks such as a 1947 International soda truck ( replete with original seltzer bottles ) or a 1965 Ford Good Humor Ice Cream truck (note : the original ice cream has melted ). You will also see a 1951 Hudson Pacemaker with only 15,000 miles – in unrestored condition , and the original tires with 1951 air!
Upon visiting you can listen to Mr. Shiller talk about the history of each vehicle and its valuation.

Connecticut ASA Chapter Meeting Announcement
Saturday, November 15, 2008
Hartford, Connecticut.
1:00 PM to 5:30 PM
We have scheduled our November meeting to take place at the Mark Twain House & Museum, followed by the Harriet Beecher Stowe house in Hartford, Connecticut (they are neighboring properties).

As you may have heard recently on the Sunday Morning Show and other media outlets, the Mark Twain House is in financial difficulty and trying to raise money to maintain this historic site. Hopefully, the organization will pull through and maintain this Connecticut treasure for future generations to enjoy.
In the meantime, we can support the foundations by our attendance. Also, it will be interesting to hear from our RE and PP appraisers present their insights on how one would go about appraising historical sites such as these – which have no true comps.
Tour Starts at:
1:00 pm Mark Twain House (45-60 minute house tour, followed by museum with 20 minute video and free time) Also have a café on site
3:00 pm Harriet Beecher Stowe House (45 minute house tour)
Special Tour/Group Price:
$10 Adults ($14 regular price)
$6 Children ($8 regular price)
Who’s Invited:
ASA CT Members, friends and family
Extended to other Chapters
RSVP
I need a head count by Wednesday, November 12th.
